One Retro Wedding Dress & Two Looks
Rachel and Paul celebrated their marriage in October at Westminster College in Cambridge. They had legally married beforehand in an intimate registry office ceremony in Bury St Edmunds. Their wedding blessing was held in the beautiful surroundings of the college and the reception followed. Rachel chose a retro wedding dress and created two looks for the day and we’d love to share more with you.
Retro Wedding Dress
As a mature bride, Rachel wanted something a little bit different for her wedding day. She loved the vintage look and always dreamed of a short wedding dress so booked her appointment to come and see us. Rachel arrived for her consultation with an open mind and we set about finding tea length wedding dresses for her to try on. As she especially liked the wedding dresses with a pretty bardot neckline, sitting slightly off the shoulder for a very elegant look we focused on those. She also favoured a slightly longer line of full skirt and chose a ballerina length.
I felt amazing and got so many compliments at how different my dress was.
The beautiful retro wedding dress that she fell in love with was a Loulou Bridal strapless satin wedding dress. It has a fitted bodice with a sweetheart bust-line which gives a beautiful silhouette to the wedding dress. She coupled this with a Timeless Chic back to front off the shoulder lace jacket that gave her the pretty bardot neckline.
This meant that Rachel could remove the jacket in the evening and add a sparkly belt to the strapless dress to glam it up. She added some petticoats to the 1950s style skirt for a fuller look. Thus creating two different looks that took her from day to night beautifully.
I loved twirling away on the dance floor in it and watching how it spun out.

Wedding Day Style
Rachel had her hair gathered with a sparkly clip and wore a birdcage veil to keep with the retro feel. She carried a bouquet of white roses and finished the look with a stunning pair of pale blue satin heels.
I was so comfortable all day and loved having a dress where I could also make my shoes a feature.
Paul wore a blue suit and grey waistcoat, he added a jazzy tie and a pair of tan classic brogue shoes. His buttonhole was a single white rose to compliment his bride’s bouquet. In the evening, as well as taking off her jacket, Rachel changed into a pair of fun customised trainers.
The couple chose a classic Bentley to carry them in style and it made Rachel feel like a princess.
I really wanted a car that suited my love of the 1950s and would compliment my dress.
Rachel and Paul had a very emotional wedding day, with Rachel’s dad being able to walk her down the aisle after a spell of ill health. Her son also did an amazing job of being one of the best men and giving a lovely speech. Rachel also mentioned that on the day unbeknownst to her, the garter she was wearing made an appearance by slipping down her leg (and giving them all a giggle when they looked back at the photographs).
