A Lockdown Day and a Bride in Blue Wedding Dress

Our lovely couple today had a totally different wedding that originally planned but still made the most of it. Robert & Elesse got married in September 2020 in London and were originally hoping to invite family and friends from far and wide. Elesse is originally from Massachusetts in the USA and planned to invite family from overseas. With the UK entering lockdown the couples plans started to change, however after making some difficult decisions they chose to postpone and when a window of opportunity presented itself in late 2020 they got planning at short notice. One thing elesse didn’t want to compromise on was her dress, so her search began for a blue wedding dress.

We had to change so much about how we had originally envisioned our wedding when we started planning in January 2020 (pre-Covid times), so I was really grateful to not have to compromise on the dress.

A Blue Wedding Dress

With not much time until they got married (having only booked the registry office in Waltham Forest in August 2020) Elesse started her search online for a blue wedding dress. She wanted something a little different and with lots of character and Laura by Loulou Bridal was the one she chose.

I knew I wanted something a bit unusual and fun. My favorite color has always been blue, so I started looking online for blue wedding dresses.

Laura is a tea length wedding dress with pretty polka dots running through it. As the wedding was so close, Elesse chose an off the peg wedding dress. She was still able to customise it to make it bespoke with suggestions from both Suzanne and our seamstress Krystyna.

I had a couple of fittings with Krystyna to get the dress just right. That was also a wonderful experience – she tailored it perfectly.

Elesse had the longer sleeves replaced with cap sleeves and had more lace added on the front. The back of the dress now has a show stopping deep v finished off with a big satin bow. She had combined elements from other short wedding dresses in our boutique.

I loved having a short dress. I was very comfortable and could move around without worrying about tripping. 

Wedding Day Details

Elesse wore her hair down with a pretty fascinator designed in our boutique with the same blue polka dots. Her shoes were a vintage style pair by Harriet Wilde. Her flowers were a mixture of beautiful hydrangeas and blue blooms.

The dress length was perfect for a registry wedding, it’s also fancy enough to use again for a future reception!

Rob wore a grey suit, his family tartan tie and had a blue button hole that matched Elesse’s flowers. The couple also had bespoke face masks for the day to match their outfits.

When I was trying the dress on with the different fascinators in store, Suzanne had one made for me with blue flowers to match my dress.

The couple had a very small reception at home with close family and friends and everyone helped out. Elesse made a few different tiers of cake and the whole day had a very relaxed and informal vibe. Elesse and Robert are still hoping to have their big reception in Cambridge soon with their wider family.

It was so nice to have the dress as a reminder that this was a special occasion
