Central London Wedding – Dotty Vintage Style Wedding Dress

Alex and Lee got married in central London at Islington Town Hall with a reception at St Pancras Clocktower. Their photographer Sam Lane Photography took some stunning shots around the area. The couple knew their wedding would be unusual as it was during Lockdown but it was still just as special. Alex wore a dotty vintage style wedding dress on the day.

As a 2020 wedding it was always going to be a little unusual and while it wasn’t the day we had originally planned, we were able to incorporate so many elements of our initial vision into our much smaller, socially-distant wedding.

Vintage Style Wedding Dress

Alex was always certain she wanted a short wedding dress but was open to suggestion on the style of it. Her only stipulation was she didn’t think she wanted sleeves, which isn’t a problem as we have lots of gorgeous designer wedding dresses of all styles. Once she visited our Bexley Boutique we got to work finding lots of wedding gowns for her to try on.

I knew I wanted a shorter, fifties-style dress from the very beginning, but beyond that I had no particular style in mind. It was brilliant to find a supplier that specialised in shorter, vintage-style wedding dresses, as I was spoilt for choice

Alex tried on lots of lovely tea length wedding dresses without sleeves and also with. She had tried some short wedding dresses with sleeves elsewhere and felt these weren’t for her.  But was open to trying more so tried a few on and found her perfect wedding gown amongst them.

Real Wedding in Islington during Lockdown

I happily tried on anything and everything that the ladies at Cutting Edge Brides picked out for me, and of course the dress I fell in love with turned out to have sleeves after all.

The gorgeous polka dot vintage style wedding dress Alex chose was Maisie by Loulou Bridal. She found that a tea length wedding dress also wasn’t quite right for her but the ballerina length felt perfect, she felt comfortable and could move easily.

I really enjoyed feeling like I could move around easily without having to worry about tripping over the dress

Maisie is a pretty vintage style wedding dress with a fitted bodice and full 1950s style skirt. The dress is covered in polka dot tulle with lace edging around the sleeves and waistline. This is a dress that moves easily and is light and floaty, Loulou bridal focus on designing short wedding dresses that feel beautiful to wear

I knew that I didn’t want a dress that required any kind of uncomfortable underwear underneath it. I was determined to be comfortable on my wedding day.

The Wedding Day Details

On the day Alex wore her hair down and accessorised with a pearl hair clip, she carried a rich bouquet of red roses. Her two bridesmaids wore fitted navy dresses and carried complimentary bouquets.  All three wore glittery sequin capes that stood out against the autumn skyline. Lee wore a grey suit and had a red rose buttonhole.

The couple had to modify their wedding day and although there were lots of changes, they still incorporated some of the oringial plans. One of those was to go on a canal boat ride after their ceremony. For this Alex changed out of her peep toe heels into a rainbow pair of Doc Martens. She felt at ease climbing on and off the boat in her dotty vintage style wedding dress, it also showed off her shoes brilliantly.

I made the most of the shorter length by changing into glittery Doc Martens after the ceremony, which got lots of attention. And I couldn’t stop twirling!

A Family Celebration

The wedding party embraced all the changes and they all got personalised hand sanitisers. The happy couple were grateful to be able to bring their families together to celebrate in these uncertain times.

It was really meaningful to be able to see everyone together and for us all to have a chance to get dressed up and celebrate.
