An Overseas Wedding & a Unique Vintage Style Wedding Dress

When Audrey and John got engaged whilst watching the stars, little did they know that their wedding plans wouldn’t go so smoothly. In that moment they had promised to continue their adventure together and oh what an adventure a wedding in lockdown could produce.  We were able to get her stunning unique vintage style wedding dress to her in time too.

The couple had originally planned to marry at the JC Raulston Arboretum in North Carolina, USA but Covid19 had other plans for them. In fact the couple got all the way to their Plan G option which still resulted in a joyful ceremony. They ended up marrying at a friends home located with stunning views at Lake Anne in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Short Wedding Dress Search

Looking online, Audrey and her matron of honour were focusing on unique wedding dresses. Something that would be simple and classic, a throwback to another era. They came across the Cutting Edge Brides website and fell in love with one of our unique vintage style wedding dress designs

I had no idea what the dress would look like but knew I would know when I saw it

The short wedding dress Audrey chose was the beautiful lace Mae by Timeless Chic. This is a classic style tea length wedding dress covered with lace and a drop satin waist band. Audrey wanted her back and arms covered and the beautiful lace on the dress gave her the coverage that she needed. The lace sleeves fell just over the elbow and have a delicate scallop to them which is matched on the hem of the dress. The back of the dress has a button up detail to finish the total look.

I was searching for a “unique dress” for an afternoon garden wedding – something simple and classical – like Audrey Hepburn stepped into the room.

Unique Vintage Style Wedding Dress

The timeline of the wedding meant Audrey couldn’t fly over to the UK to try the tea length wedding dress. There wouldn’t have been enough time to get a custom made wedding gown in time. So instead she sent us her measurements and chose to have an off the peg wedding dress. Our seamstress checked the dress over and we shipped it off to America. Once it arrived, Audrey had a fitting with a seamstress to make sure that everything fitted well.

John wore a navy suit and his tie picked up the colour palette the couple had chosen. Purple and blue were chosen from their favourite colours and Audrey echoed this in her pretty flower crown. She chose a pair of simple heels to go with her wedding dress. Audrey carried a stunning bouquet of spring flowers in deep purples and there were lots of flowers dotted around the venue.

A Lockdown Wedding with a Difference

As well as the bride wearing a unique vintage style wedding dress, the couples whole wedding was unique. They live streamed their wedding to their guests so that they could all still stay socially distanced and safe.

The length was perfect for a garden wedding – ease walking around with a little flare when dancing.

The couple incorporated lots of important details into their wedding. From the invites which had their wedding colour scheme and the night sky to having the hand fasting cord in their colours and incorporated John’s heritage.

Although this is not what we had originally planned – it was a wonderful ceremony that brought joy to many in addition to the bride and groom. A very momentous occasion!
