A Bright and Bold Retro Wedding Day – Calf Length Wedding Dress
We were so excited when the images from Laura & Tristan’s wedding day arrived in our inbox. The gorgeous classic retro wedding day mixed with a riot of colour of their chosen venue made visually amazing. The lovely couple married on the 19.09.19 perfect date for a 999 emergency couple (completely unintentional). Their wedding day was at The Blitz factory/Gods Own Junkyard in Walthamstow. Images captured by Ross Hurley Photography and supplied by the couple.
Cutting Edge Brides was the only place I looked at knowing they specialised in shorter styles. I had my mind set on a Lace dress.
A Calf Length Wedding Dress
Laura had always wanted a short wedding dress and had her mind set on a Lace Tea Length Wedding dress. So when she arrived at Cutting Edge Brides Wedding Boutique our consultant got to work. Bringing her most trusted confidants with her, Laura picked out a few dresses to try on.
I knew that our wedding was never going to be the normal conventional wedding.
Her perfect vintage style wedding dress was spotted by her Auntie and Laura knew as soon as she tried it that it was the one. The wedding gown in question was the very classic and wonderful Jackie by White Rose.

I picked a couple of dresses out then I allowed them to pick a dress out, my Aunt actually picked the dress I had out. I knew it was the one when I saw my Nan get choked up.
It’s an Ivory Satin calf length wedding dress with elbow length sleeves and a high neck. The back of the dress dips into a stunning deep v and has a wide collar. This is a very flattering style of dress with a mix from the clean lines on the front and the detail at the back. The elbow length sleeves ensured that no matter the weather for their autumn wedding, Laura wouldn’t get cold.

I always said when I get married I wanted a short dress. My Nan had a short wedding dress, a beautiful french lace dress.
A Retro Wedding Day
The calf length full skirt swayed gently as Laura moved and showed a hint of her sparkly embellished court heels. Laura finished the look with an embellished ribbon belt that flowed gently behind her. The satin gave the short wedding gown a luxurious look and feel and moved easily with her.
I adore my 50s style dress it’s very vintage and classic look.
By keeping the front of the dress simple it really allowed for the wow factor and was a timeless look. Laura had her hair down in a cascade of curls and gently pinned up with a birdcage veil. Which complemented the overall vintage feel of the day.
I was told having a high neck plain satin dress would focus on the dress
Laura carried a beautiful colourful bouquet with flowing ribbons and her groom Tristan wore a light blue suit and also had a mixed flower button hole. By having a simpler wedding dress it allowed the couple to ramp up the colour and details elsewhere in their day.
We wanted it to have that unexpected wow factor we ended up having a Junkyard theme and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect venue.
As for the couple’s venue, this was a feast for the eyes from the start. With reclaimed neon signs adjourning the walls and a collection of memorabilia, this would be anything but ordinary. Everything about the day from their vintage wedding car to the venue gave this a retro wedding day feel.
Our wedding was a bright and bold day, so having a plain dress just made everything else stand out a little bit more.
