A Polka Dot Short Wedding Dress and a Surprise Announcement

Anthony and Laura got married in the heart of Sheffield in February 2020. The ceremony and the reception at Sheffield Town Hall and their wedding photography was in and around the city. The images captured are by their Photographer, Mark Tierney. They had such a colourful day filled with music and lots of great details.

Polka Dot Short Wedding Dress

Laura new quite early on that she wanted a shorter wedding dress as she is 5ft 1. She first noticed the boutique in one of our appearances on ‘Don’t Tell The Bride’ so booked her appointment with us.

When Laura arrived at the boutique she tried several dresses before settling on Arizona by Rita Mae. She had already noticed it on our website in a different colour combination. She decided to have white polka dots and add splashes of red to her look.

I knew they’d be perfect for helping me find the perfect dress for me – most boutiques don’t have much of a range when it comes to shorter length dresses

Arizona is a beautiful polka dot short wedding dress, the dots are unique and dramatic. The off the shoulder neckline is a stunning addition with a wide collar that sits on the bodice.  Rita Mae is a British Designer Wedding Dress Label and part of the Alan Hannah Group. The short wedding gowns are available in ivory and white and some designs are available in a range of colours.

I had browsed online before visiting and had seen the dress I chose, but wasn’t sure about polka dots – especially because the one pictured on the website had red spots

Laura chose a bright red sash and full white petticoats to finish her look. She had already fallen in love with some fabulous red Mary Jane retro style shoes. This all tied together to create a very fun and chic look on the day.

I’m forever grateful to Krystyna for the final set of alterations – the weekend before the wedding – that got me comfortably into my dress.

Laura carried a stunning hand tied bunch of bright red and white peonies. For some of the outside shots she wore a leather jacket which matched the whole 1950’s style of her outfit. Anthony wore a three-piece suit and matching red tie and button hole.

As well as the excitement of getting married, the couple also had a very special announcement to share. The couple had a surprise baby announcement to make at their wedding reception. So it was all the more important that Laura felt comfortable in her wedding gown.

We announced our pregnancy during the speeches having gotten the all clear from our 12 weeks scan a few days before the wedding, which was a definite highlight. No one had any idea, so it was wonderful to be able to see the surprise on the faces of all of our favourite people.

I loved wearing a short dress on the day – it’s so much fun to wear a big dress but not feel totally swamped or overwhelmed by it. I’d chosen my shoes before I chose the dress, so I was thrilled to be able to show them off on the day, and got lots of compliments on the combination of the two.
