Real Brides – A Tea Length Wedding Dress to Dance In
Our wonderful real bride blog post today is all about Maddy and John’s wedding day. We instantly fell in love with Maddy the moment she told us that she wanted a tea length wedding dress to dance in. The wonderful Images were captured by their photographer Alex Tenters Photography. The couple had their ceremony and reception in The Tythe Barn at Priston Mill, near Bath. It’s a beautiful simple and grand venue that was ideal for the couples 150+ guests. Maddy told us the team on the day made everything run seamlessly and calmly.
I was fairly sure I wanted a short style from the start; I always enjoy wearing that fifties, full style in skirts and dresses.
Maddy chose Nellie by LouLou which is a stunning Polka Dot Vintage 1950s Inspired Tea Length Short Wedding Dress with Short Sleeves. She had it customised to a include full back polka dots and button detail finished with a satin bow. She opted for half sleeves full of polka dots too which gives it an amazing retro style.
Your seamstress was also super lovely and incredibly affordable. I loved that she was willing to try different solutions and was honest about what worked and what didn’t.
Previously Maddy had visited a selection of other bridal boutiques and quickly realised long dresses weren’t for her. Even with customising the longer wedding gowns she still wasn’t able to envisage the look she wanted. There wasn’t as much versatility with a longer gown and so she quickly realised a specialist short wedding dress boutique was the answer.
I wanted to look glamorous but still modest and comfortable
She chose beautiful red velvet shoes from Joe Brown for the day look and changed into some fantastic sparkly red trainers for the evening. As we mentioned before, this was definitely a tea length wedding dress to dance in!
A big component of our wedding day would be the dancing, so I wanted to be able to dance without tripping myself or the groom in the process
Keeping her hair down, Maddy opted for a pearl and diamante headband and birdcage veil. Her jewellery was all borrowed from family. The overall look was classic and fun with the polka dots covering the bodice and skirt to give the tea length wedding dress a vintage style feel.
I went with Cutting Edge Brides because they had the best range of shorter styles, and because they were lovely at the first appointment and throughout.
The couple chose earthy colours for their day with navy, burgundy and tones of yellowy gold. The bridesmaids wore short light burgundy dresses with complimentary bouquets. Flowers included Dahlias, Carnations, Roses, Rosehips, Ranunculus and Skimmia, with Cotinus and Eucalyptus.
The Groom, two best men and four groomsmen were in navy three piece suits, with burgundy ties and pocket squares, except John who wore gold ones. They all wore Star Wars socks with different characters. Maddy’s Bridesdude (brother) also had matching tie and pocket square.
Your seamstress was also super lovely and incredibly affordable. I loved that she was willing to try different solutions and was honest about what worked and what didn’t.
The couple were given some sage advice at the start or their planning journey. To pick three things of importance and compromise on everything else. The couple really embraced this advice and focused on the things that meant the most to them. These included having their loved ones close, food that was amazing (they had family style platters of food) and some great dancing time.
We picked: having everyone we loved there, amazing food and maximum dancing time.
Lots of the gorgeous details at the wedding were handmade by Maddy such as the hexagonal table centerpieces. As for the wedding cake, Maddy’s dad built a striking four tiered cake stand that rotated. So it really was a family made wedding with amazing special touches that they won’t forget.
