Alternative Wedding Dress with a Black Bodice
Liz and Paul got married in September in Tunbridge Wells registry office with a reception meal at The Warren restaurant. Liz already knew she wanted a tea length wedding dress and started looking for her alternative wedding dress online. Coming across the Cutting Edge Brides website she found what she thought was her perfect short wedding dress.
I had always wanted to have a “1950’s style” shorter length wedding dress as I felt it would suit my size and shape,
Alternative Wedding Dress
After booking her appointment and travelling for 45 minutes to visit us, Liz tried on several alternative wedding dress styles. We helped her to try some designs that she had originally discounted.
I am so pleased that I did as Suzanne was brilliant. She actually suggested a different dress to try on, and once I did, I knew that it was perfect for me.

Liz chose Loulou Annette in satin/silk organza. She then chose a black bodice and ivory skirt for a different look. This alternative wedding dress oozes old hollywood glamour with the ruched Bodice and deep V neck. This is echoed on the back of the dress too and gives way to a layered floaty organza skirt.
I also was able to choose to have a black bodice instead of ivory as a second time bride, I didn’t want to have all ivory again.
Unfortunately Liz was unable to make an early fitting but we sent photographs to show her the amazing wedding dress. When she could travel, she had her first fitting and knew she’d made the right decision.
Seeing the dress on for the first time was so exciting, and I knew it was absolutely the right choice.
Our seamstress Kristina took in Liz’s needs and created extra fastenings and ways to make the dress fit perfectly. It’s important that every bride walks away with a stunning and comfortable short wedding dress.
Suzanne is very friendly and relaxed, and has a real eye for what works.
Alternative Wedding Dress
Liz teamed her vintage style wedding dress with a stunning pair of black heels. She wore her hair swept back and had elegant pearl jewellery to complete the look. She carried a beautiful bouquet of red roses. Paul wore a navy three piece suit with a red tie, single red rose buttonhole and pocket square. They wanted the day to feel simple and elegant and her florist Lucinda sourced the most beautiful red spray roses.
The couple had planned for the day to involve close family with a bigger party in the evening at The Spa Hotel. They had to postpone the evening part of their celebration until next year. Now Liz has another opportunity to wear her short wedding dress again. They even have a special dance planned as they’ve been ballroom dancing together in the past.
Wedding Day Details
The bridesmaids (Stepdaughters Amber and Erin) and their son Sam all travelled in a beautiful Bentley Mulsanne. The wedding day involved lots of little touches and was a real family affair. Liz’s sister-in-law Alex did hair, make-up was done by a friend and her sister Victoria took the photos. Another friend who is a florist, created the bouquets and buttonholes. The three bouquets – bride’s and the two bridesmaids became table decorations at the restaurant afterwards.
As Liz and Paul had both been married before, they chose a simple day where they could celebrate with their loved ones. After the ceremony and photos, they had a quiet drive around the town with some champagne before re-joining the party. The car attracted a fair bit of attention driving round Tunbridge Wells.
I felt really special in my dress – it was exactly what I wanted and everyone has commented on what a beautiful dress it was and how well it suited me.
