Real Weddings – A Rustic Wedding
A Rustic & Whimsical Affair
Markella and Jonathan wanted a fun and colourful celebration with lots of handmade touches, a real rustic wedding. They held their wedding at The Milling Barn in Hertfordshire. It’s high ceilings and exposed beams made it the perfect choice for their day and the weather was stunning too. With a riot of colour and lots of whimsical details this is truly a gorgeous wedding. It will make you smile just looking at the photographs taken by the couples photographer, Victoria Mitchell.
“I wanted our wedding to be a fun, colourful celebration with a lot of DIY so I made a lot of the elements including my ceremony backdrop, table numbers, cake topper, bunting, leather jacket, veil and headpiece”
Knowing that they wanted a rustic wedding, Markella also knew she wanted a vintage style wedding dress. She chose beautiful pastel colours for her bouquet and bridesmaids dresses. Matching the bridesmaids sorbet colours with her flowers and all the little details helped to tie the theme together and made this a awe inspiring day.
“Suzanne and the team were able to understand my vision and direct me to the ballet length which I hadn’t even thought of.”
“Everyone loved my dress on the day and said how it was so me. I loved how the longer length helped me feel like I had a lovely wedding dress but the colour was a little surprise as I walked.”
“I wanted colour underneath and I am a massive shoe lover so they had to be on display”
The dress she chose was the gorgeous and ultra feminine Molly Mae 1950s vintage style wedding dress by True Bride. It’s a beautiful tea length wedding dress with a 1950s retro edge. She styled it with amazing petticoats and some scene stealing shoes that really added to the retro vibe and made it a real rustic wedding.
“I thought I would go more for a knee length but when I tried the ballet length suggested by Suzanne, I just felt so much like a bride”
Featuring a pretty vintage inspired Lace edge sheer illusion neckline and a full Fifties style skirt, this dress is ideal for the bride seeking something sassy and chic. A zip up back with button trim and a sheer back finishes the look.
Markella tried several dresses and went away with pictures and a shortlist of a couple of dresses she liked. After looking at the images and getting a sense of which she preferred she came back to try on the two shortlisted dresses. She tried ‘the one’ and instantly knew it was the dress for her.
“The help in listening to my ideas and styling my dress was amazing as was the in house seamstress who did my alterations”
“I loved that our guests felt our wedding was so us and that everyone was smiling! we had the best day ever”
